A new 8"x6" oil painting completed a couple of days ago. A view looking northward-ish from the Morfee ridgeline towards what I think is Macoun mountain but I really don't know. A beautiful view though.

A view from the Morfee ridgeline of the mountains to the north. A small oil painting, 6"x8" in size, depicting the scene with thick impasto-ish brush strokes. Had fun with this one. It is the second time I painted it since the first try didn't have a mixture of colours I was pleased with so it got wiped off with a cloth. Switched out a couple of colours on my palette and had a much more enjoyable time mixing and painting. Onto the next painting 🙂

Wet paint! I've got a number of small paintings on the go but these two are the first to be completed. Looking forward to hanging them and many others @the.purple.bike on December 1st. Stay tuned, I'll continue to post new paintings throughout October and November.

Good morning! There will be no restock @the.purple.bike this month with the exception of a few canvas prints I brought in this past week when I completed the inventory check. There are plenty of items in the store but I will keep an eye on the cards in case I need to top up the inventory. Available at The Purple Bike are original oil paintings which you can view on my website michelinesnively.ca in the Purple Bicycle gallery, giclee paper and canvas prints and cards, and earrings.
.
I just want to paint 🙂
.
So instead I'm sharing random photos from my phone that I took last year and wish you a fun, relaxing weekend wherever you reside. Enjoy!
A beautiful afternoon spent mountain biking the Royal Coachman trail on Morfee mountain today. The fall colours are still fantastic with the sunlight but a week earlier may have been better, still beautiful though and gorgeous weather.
.
Looking forward to painting a few of the scenes I captured today. There is a lot of familiarity with this area but I'm happy I have this muse that is Morfee mountain because it has taught me so much during my career as an artist.

It's been a while since I've posted about paintings in progress so I thought I'd share a couple with you. The first is from a paddle on Azouzetta Lake one chilly foggy fall morning and the other from Morfee Lake showing off the large rounded rocks of the lakebed and that lovely view down the lake.

The morning light has been beautiful these past few days while out walking with the dogs, they are so patient with me stopping here and there to photograph whatever catches my interest.
.
Given my love for realism with painting, especially when it comes to the application of colour, it's been a good challenge to look at how I approach photography. Focal point has been the main driver these days plus looking for colour relationships so I can develop stronger compositions.
.
Enjoy the photos, a glimpse of the beauty that exists in a cutblock.

As I look forward to the remainder of 2026 I’ve made the decision to not accept any more commissions until May of 2027. I am currently reaching out to folks who have showed an interest in commissioning a painting to assess their interest and timeframe and will proceed with those that are confirmed, otherwise no new requests will be taken for the remainder of the year and into the first quarter of 2027. Thanks to everyone who has commissioned a painting in the past 8 months or so, they’ve been an absolute pleasure to paint. The number of commissions accepted in 2027 will be limited depending on size.
.
I have goals and plans for completing my own paintings that are currently in progress and starting new ones soon which I am excited about. This is with the objective of keeping works of art hanging at The Purple Bike and to renew my interest in applying to calls for submissions with the Federation of Canadian Artists and other opportunities which I’ve put on the back burner for the past year. I miss applying to the exhibits they truly force me to up my game so to speak.
.
Commissions are wonderful opportunities for connecting with people and their stories plus challenging myself with imagery I may otherwise not paint. Time for personal development is also very important to me so being able to focus on my own work is something I am really looking forward to, so much has been on the back burner.

Thanks for your understanding and thanks for reading if you made it this far!
On Thursday evening, August 6th, it was the opening of Central Interior FCA Chapter exhibit The Self Portrait: Reflections of an Artist at the Two Rivers Gallery in Prince George BC. A beautiful and skilled group of paintings completed by the members of the chapter, you can view the exhibit until September 20th. It was a lovely evening, I really enjoyed reconnecting with artists I know and meeting new ones. Thanks to the Two Rivers Gallery for a great evening.
.
As I was leaving PG today I made a quick stop at the gallery to snap a couple of images I forgot to take on opening night. I’ve provided a link to the online exhibit on the Federation Galley’s website in my Instagram Bio and the link here for Facebook viewers, https://federationgallery.com/exhibit/central_interior_the_self_portrait_reflections_of_an_artist/4074

A small 6”x12” commission recently completed called ‘The Mill Creek Proposal’. A sea of greens of early summer which for me celebrate the marriage proposal that took place here quite appropriately. Full of life and vigour of a new partnership that will grow with the seasons. All the best to the newly wed couple and much thanks to the individual who commissioned the painting, I appreciate that you trusted me with this memorable gift.

Nice to see this painting sell ❤️ thank-you to the collector and to @the.purple.bike.

It's The Rockin the Ridgeline event in Mackenzie this weekend so a couple of friends and I went out for a bike ride on the alpine section of the Ridgeline trail. A cloudy but beautiful day with amazing wildflowers. Took a lot of photos, here are some of them with the best being saved for future paintings. Looking forward to painting the scenes, gorgeous out there.
